welcome home

Trust us when we say that creating your holiday tablescape isn’t as intimidating as you think, and it certainly won’t take a Christmas miracle! You most likely have everything you need to set the base of your table, so with a few helpful design tips, you can hone in on your “theme” and create a sophisticated tablescape for all to enjoy. We partnered with our friend Katie at the Uncommon Creative Studio to inspire your next holiday tablescape! Let’s get to work:

FIND YOUR INSPIRATION

We recommend finding inspiration for your ideal holiday tablescape before doing anything else. Do you know what style you like? Do you dream of all the buffalo plaid and rustic farmhouse elements? That’s where you start. Find a design style or color scheme that makes you happy, and begin building from there.

GET THE LOOK

Great tablescapes are all about layers and details! When planning a tablescape, start with your menu. Know the food, and you’ll know the elements you need for each setting.

START WITH THE BASICS

Dishes, Silverware, Glasses, Serveware

Start with basics…I recommend always having dinner plates, salad or appetizer plates, a 3-piece flatware set, napkins, and a water glass! Then depending on your dinner party needs, you can add chargers, champagne flutes, wine glasses, cocktail glasses, more silverware, napkin rings, and place cards!

LAYER LINENS AND TEXTILES

Tablecloth, Placemats, Napkins, Napkin Rings

ADD YOUR CENTERPIECE(S)

Candlesticks, Candles, Filler, Vases, Decor

Hung up on what to use for the centerpiece? Always remember that a single mundane item multiplied many times makes a huge impact! Just make sure your centerpiece isn’t too tall so that your guests can chat across the decor!

ADD YOUR GREENERY

Flowers/Branches: Can be Faux or Natural!

One final thing… I always leave room for three things on the table to pass during dinner parties: bread/crackers, light dessert, & salad! These items bring another layer into your decor and allow community connection at the table as you serve a few items family-style! All other food can be served buffet style back in the kitchen!

There you have it! Our guide to setting your holiday tablescape promises an inviting, sophisticated, and intimate dinner for your Christmas soiree. From all of us at Alma Homes, we wish you a warm and very Merry Christmas.
